Dstny – Quality Assurance / Test Automation Engineer
The QA / Test Automation Engineer (Smartflow) is responsible for building and owning the automated test suite that makes fast, confident releases possible, with a focus on:
-Conversational AI use cases (voice and text)
-Real-time communication and event-driven systems
-CRM and business system integrations
This is an engineering role, not a manual testing role. The expectation is that quality is delivered primarily through code: automated tests, test infrastructure, and CI/CD quality gates. Manual and exploratory testing exist to find what automation cannot, and to feed new cases back into the suite.
You will:
Design, build, and maintain the automated test suite across levels:
-unit and component test guidance (with developers)
-API and service-level / integration tests
-end-to-end and UI tests
-contract tests for integrations
Propose the tooling and frameworks (e.g. Playwright/Cypress, Vitest/Jest, Pact, k6 or similar), agree them with the Tech Leads, and then own them
Assess the existing unit and end-to-end tests: keep, refactor, or replace, and bring them under a common approach
Act as the testing expert in defining the strategy for each product, together with its Tech Lead:
-what is tested at which level (test pyramid / trophy)
-what is automated, what stays manual and why
-risk-based prioritisation of coverage
-entry/exit and release criteria
The Tech Lead has the final call on strategy for their product; this role is expected to argue the case, then execute the agreed approach
Integrate tests into the pipeline so they run automatically on every change
Define and enforce quality gates that block unsafe releases
Keep pipeline feedback fast enough to be usable in day-to-day development
Contribute to release readiness assessment
Use AI coding assistants as a normal part of daily work to accelerate delivery:
-generating and refactoring test code
-expanding coverage across similar cases and edge conditions
-migrating and consolidating legacy tests
-producing test data and fixtures
-triaging failures and summarizing root cause
We are looking for:
Strong programming ability — this role writes production-grade code
-TypeScript / JavaScript (primary)
-comfortable reading and navigating application code (Node.js, React/Vue)
Proven experience building an automated test suite from a low or fragmented baseline, and consolidating inconsistent existing tests
Modern test automation frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Vitest/Jest, or equivalents)
API testing and integration testing, including test data and mocking strategies
CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into them (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
Hands-on, current use of AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude, Copilot, Cursor) in real delivery work — able to describe concretely what they use them for and where they do not trust them
Solid SQL and database knowledge for verification and test data setup
Git and standard engineering workflows
Experience with:
-cloud platforms (e.g. AWS or similar)
-containers and reproducible test environments
-performance/load testing tooling (e.g. k6, JMeter)
-contract testing (e.g. Pact)
-observability tooling for debugging and test triage
